Young Alabama Mom, 22, Dies in Car Crash with Family
A 22-year-old mother from Alabama was killed in a tragic multi-vehicle collision on Sunday, October 19, leaving her husband, their baby daughter, and two others injured. The crash occurred along U.S. Route 278 in Etowah County, where three vehicles were involved in the fatal accident.
According to local authorities, the collision happened around 11:20 a.m. when a Ford F-250 truck struck a Toyota Camry carrying the young woman and her family. Moments later, a Chevrolet 1500 pickup also collided with the Camry, causing severe damage to the vehicle and resulting in multiple injuries.
The victim, identified as Amber Lee Blackwood, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Timothy “Noah” Blackwood, and their one-year-old daughter, Ava, were both injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two other individuals involved in the crash were also taken to medical facilities with varying degrees of injury.

Investigators said the accident occurred in clear weather conditions, though the exact cause remains under investigation. Early findings suggest that speed and roadway congestion may have played a role in the chain reaction collision.
Community Mourns Loss of Young Mother
Amber Blackwood was a newly married mother known for her kindness and ambition. Born and raised in Altoona, Alabama, she graduated from J.B. Pennington High School in Blountsville in 2021 and had recently earned her real estate license. She was just beginning her professional career in real estate and had joined a local agency where, colleagues say, she quickly became loved by everyone she met.

Friends and relatives described Amber as “a bright light” who was deeply devoted to her husband and daughter. Her family said she had “her whole life ahead of her” and that her sudden passing has left a painful void in the close-knit community.
Amber and Noah married in November 2023 and recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary. Loved ones say their young daughter, Ava, was the center of their world.
Community members have since come together to support the family. A local fundraiser has been established to help with medical costs and funeral expenses. Neighbors, friends, and colleagues have also expressed grief and sympathy, describing Amber as a caring mother, a loyal friend, and an inspiring young woman who was determined to build a better future for her family.
Authorities Urge Caution After Fatal Crash
Law enforcement officials have reiterated the importance of road safety following the accident. With the busy highway known for its heavy traffic, authorities reminded drivers to remain alert and follow speed limits, especially along U.S. 278 where several accidents have occurred this year.
