Jackie Tohn, star of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, opened up about the importance of comfort on set during a recent appearance at the 2025 InStyle Imagemaker Awards in Los Angeles. The 45-year-old actress emphasized that feeling at ease in her wardrobe helps bring authenticity and confidence to her performances, even when scenes are revealing.
Tohn recalled a past role on The Closer, where she wore a leopard stretch skirt so short that she had to constantly adjust it throughout filming. “The whole day… I was pulling it and pulling it,” she said. “It was like, ‘My buns are out on [TNT].’” Despite the wardrobe challenge, she used the experience to enhance her portrayal of the character, showing how embracing discomfort can support performance.

Discussing her current role as Esther in Nobody Wants This, Tohn noted that her character’s style also influences how she approaches the role. For instance, Esther often wears turtlenecks, which Tohn feels complements the character’s personality and mood. She explained that clothing can be a tool for actors to embody their roles more fully, stating, “What you’re wearing and who you are informs the performance a lot.”

Tohn also shared insights about Esther’s bold new hairstyle in season two, which featured blunt bangs achieved through realistic clip-ins. The hairstyle mirrored Tohn’s own experiences with bangs and added a playful touch to the character’s storyline. “It reminded me of when I thought I was quirky and cut bangs for nine years,” she said. While she enjoys experimenting with hairstyles for her roles, Tohn prefers to remain bang-free in real life for flexibility.
