A North Texas community is in shock after the tragic death of Chelsea Spillers, a 33-year-old biology and chemistry teacher at Alvarado High School. Spillers was found dead in her home on Saturday, October 18, 2025. The Alvarado Police Department responded to a welfare check and discovered her body. Preliminary investigations suggest that her death was caused by blunt force trauma.
Her husband, Brandon Ashley, was arrested on Monday, October 20, in Bedias, Texas, approximately 150 miles southeast of Alvarado. Ashley was reportedly seen walking shirtless and knocking on neighbors’ doors asking for a shirt. He allegedly made statements about avoiding a highway due to a heavy police presence. Upon arrest, he informed authorities of a hidden firearm nearby, which was subsequently recovered.
According to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, Ashley was charged with trespassing and interference with official duties. The Alvarado Police Department later issued a murder warrant for him in connection with Spillers’ death.

Spillers was a dedicated educator who had been with Alvarado ISD since 2022. The school district expressed deep sorrow over her passing, describing her as a passionate teacher who loved her students and colleagues. Students remembered her as a supportive figure who made a positive impact on their lives.
