An explosion believed to be intentional erupted early Saturday morning at the Goldenson Building on Harvard University’s Longwood Medical Campus in Boston, law-enforcement officials announced. A university police officer responding to a triggered fire alarm spotted two masked individuals fleeing the scene shortly before 3 a.m. local time. The blast occurred on the fourth floor, no injuries were reported, and investigators are now appealing to the public for help identifying the suspects.
Investigation Underway
The campus police department, working alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Boston Fire Department’s Arson Unit, determined the explosion was a deliberate act. Surveillance images show two individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts and face coverings, exiting the building moments after the blast. The building was swept for any additional devices and cleared, though the fourth floor remains restricted pending further inspection.

Building & Campus Impact
The Goldenson Building, constructed in 1906 and part of Harvard’s medical teaching complex, houses key research laboratories and clinical space. University officials notified building occupants to avoid the premises unless essential, and some labs have been temporarily relocated. While no injuries were reported and the campus remains open, the incident has heightened security scrutiny across Harvard’s facilities and triggered a campus-wide alert to remain vigilant.
